Personal grooming is extremely important for men at all ages. Having the right tools not only can save you tons of time in the bathroom, but also allow you to enjoy your personal grooming routine. This is true when it comes to grooming shaver/razor. It may seem odd to buy yourself a double edge razor kit instead of the fancy electric razor or one of those disposable razors. If you are continuing reading this article, you probably have seen the proliferation of advertisements on men’s grooming razors and the domination of electric shaving systems. Ask yourself this question, “Why should I buy a fancy safety razor instead of picking up a Gillette or Schick and one of those fancy electric shaving model at local store?”

Futur Top Off
Personally, I always advise my readers to choose the Merkur Futur for their choice of manual razors. The cutting head of the Merkur Futur is where the design stands apart from other safety razors on the market. The overall design of many Futur razors has a larger and wider cutting head that can easily extend well pass the width of the double edge blade itself. Having the head of the razor can easily snap-on top of the plate makes you feel more secured when there are two pins that can easily snap onto the bottom half of the cutting head assembly to hold the blade securely in place during shaving. When I install my first razor blade in the razor, it felt awkward because the top plate of the cutting head had to be snapped off rather than released by a screw mechanism similar to most razors. One of the features that I like about the razor is the top plate of the razor has a grove on one side. This allows the top plate to have a secure point to place your finger when shaving. After changing the blade a few times, I felt the removal process of the top plate is less awkward.
Another great design for most of the Merkur’s razors is the traditional two-piece and three-piece designs that can easily be unscrewed when you have to change the blade. The contemporary and elegant look for these razors has set the company apart from other brands. By incorporating the smooth finish and longer grip handle throughout the entire body of the razor allows users to plenty of space for those who have larger hands or prefer the feel of the longer razor. One of the goals that Merkur Futur wants us to experience from it razors is the feeling of a nice hefty and solid feel that always preferred by many traditional wet shavers.
In addition to the unique design aspects of the Merkur Futur, the cutting head allows the user to adjust the razor’s aggressiveness based on the overall rotation mechanism. By allowing users to adjust the handle settings from 1 to 6 with half marks between each number, the cutting head can easily be raise and lower to create a larger or smaller blade gap. Users who have sensitive skin or lighter hair may want to set the handle to the lowest setting because they can minimize the irritation due to aggressive shave. On the other hand, users who have thicker beards may want to dial the setting to 6. When a safety razor set at 6, the head of the razor is raised to create a larger gap, which exposes more of the blade. This allows users who have thicker beards or coarser hair to have a more aggressive shave in order to achieve that perfect shave.

Futur Gap
Before I decided to write this review, I had a chance to use the Merkur Futur Safety Razor for over 6 months. The feeling of holding this razor is well secured and nice in the hand because the design is well complimented for a larger and heavier razor. This razor does a great job on most areas of the face. Unfortunately, I found that shaving under the nose can be quite a challenge because of its large cutting head. This issue can make shaving difficult for some users to shave in the small areas of the face. I particularly like shaving in the larger flat areas of the face such as my neck and cheeks. The razor does a great job of feeling comfortable in the hand while maintaining a precise maneuverability around the curve curves of my jaw line. Remember the snap-on head of the razor? This feature allows the blade to be secured in order to prevent it from shifting or ratting inside the cutting head. Another reason why I always advise my readers to buy Merkur Futur Safety Razor because the initial cost of the razor seems pretty steep, but the overall design will be the last razor that you will ever going to buy. You can easily buy new blades for your razor and it will probably cost between $5 to $10. If you compare the cost of the new blades to the exorbitant prices of the American name brands for disposable blades, then you will instantly save hundreds over an extended period of time.
The Futur is one of the razors that is precisely engineered and advertised as environmental friendly since the steel is not combined with plastic or other materials that can easily be disposable within several weeks. The attractive Futur razor also comes with several finishes. From polished to satin chrome finish, you can easily pick a style that you like. I personally recommend others to use the Merkur Futur Safety Razor if they are an experienced wet shaver who wants a solid and well-build adjustable razor to your rotation.

I recently purchased a Futur. I have found that it is remarkrkable for my face, but it has proven to be somewhat difficult to use on my head. It requires far less pressure than standard cartridge razors. I nicked and cut my scalp quite a bit as I am still learning to use on my head.
